The Effect of Electrode Geometry and Pre-heating Treatment on Resistance Spot Welding Strength

Resistance spot welding (RSW) is one of the most significant and common metal joining methods used in industries. The present paper discusses comparative performance resistance electrodes nontraditional design with traditional 8 mm contact diameter a 1.5 thick low carbon steel sheet automobile structural bodies bridges. modified electrode tip surface center was machined to have three different holes 2, 3, 4 depth diameters 4, 6 producing nine hollow dimensions. As well as influence pre-heating temperature on mechanical properties weld joint investigated by considering other main parameters time, current, force are constant. shear tensile test torsion examinations carried out investigate properties. Also, interrupt results, macrograph examination conducted determine nugget size formation. results show that increase or decrease strength greatly influenced proper selection geometries. indicated maximum improvement torsional about 140% 150% compared one. Furthermore, processes helped at faying surfaces improve 141% 171% 200 oC. Moreover, may be achieved slightly increasing temperatures
